The Edge of the World

March 1, 2025

Greetings Yogis,

At the end of our road, through a secret gate, to the edge of the world where one more step would drop you into the ocean, sits a worn writer’s perch cut from an old Monterey pine. I come here often, a place I call ‘The Edge of the World,’ where not a soul is in sight and the vast open ocean sprawls in front of me.

Today, I watch three sparrows flit amongst the aloe vera clinging to the cliffside. Dancing from one plump blade to another, they nibble on the bright orange plumes of nectarous blossoms spiking up from the center, never perturbed by the piercing thorns they effortlessly rest on, or the fatal fall below.

I come here figuratively and literally, to a place beyond my certainties and long-held stories, a place beyond cultural norms and accepted truths, where I am not bound by other’s rules or expectations. Here, perched over the Pacific, I ponder questions that come with no answers.

NO answer IS the answer. I relish the sweetness of the empty mind, the cliff edge of my own ‘known’ world where I can release absolutes, entitlements and grasping into the sea below, absorbed simply into what is without needing it to make any sense. It’s important to seek inspiration that moves us beyond our limited beliefs and perspectives.

Go beyond the asanas you know, take different routes home, go beyond the same topics you always talk about, expand beyond one-sided views you hold, zoom out beyond the minutiae of your particular ‘role’ in the world and on this planet, see yourself floating in a massive cosmic system, beyond the sun and the moon, the planets and galaxies.

Go beyond the tiny screen we now perceive most of life with, beyond your divided political beliefs, beyond your polished preferences and expectations of orderliness. Go beyond the noisy distractions and become the master of your own faith, become your own OI, or Official Intelligence.

When we laser focus on our daily human dramas and forget to expand our limited viewpoint, we can loop infinitely in a suffering silo. And, we live in a society that encourages us to stay entranced in that small, diminished version of reality so they can sell us the fix.

But there is somewhere beyond this...

It is here, at the fringe and deep in the present moment, just beyond your last limiting belief, when you finally see it all for what it is, where you'll find truth and peace – patiently waiting for you in the spaces they have always dwelled, unchanging and eternal.

May we all be free,

Nat K
